Real, Editable Text

Paragraphs are rebuilt, words hyphenated across lines are re-joined, and headings, bold and italic are carried over.

Two Conversion Modes

Editable text for documents you want to rewrite, exact layout for forms and designs you only need to annotate.

Never Uploaded

The PDF is read and the Word file is built entirely on your device — safe for contracts, CVs and confidential reports.

PDF to Word: What to Expect

Editable text vs. exact layout

PDF and Word store documents very differently. A PDF records where each letter sits on the page; a Word document records paragraphs that reflow. "Editable text" mode reads the text of every page, rebuilds the paragraphs and headings, and writes them as normal Word text — perfect when you want to rewrite, translate or reuse the content. Columns, tables and images are simplified, so complex layouts will not look identical.

"Exact layout" mode places each page in the Word file as a high-resolution picture. The document looks exactly like the PDF and prints the same, but the text cannot be edited. Use it for forms, flyers and scans that you only need to add notes to in Word.

Converting scanned PDFs

A scanned PDF contains photos of pages rather than text. The converter detects these pages and inserts them as images so nothing is lost, but the words inside them cannot be edited until the scan is run through OCR. Most scanner apps can save a searchable (OCR) PDF, which converts to editable Word text normally.

Tips for the best result

  • PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs or a browser convert best because their text is stored in reading order.
  • If only a few pages matter, use Extract PDF Pages first to make the conversion faster and the Word file cleaner.
  • For quick fixes such as a typo or a date, Edit PDF lets you white-out and retype text without converting at all.
  • If you only need the words (for example to paste into an email), PDF to Text is faster.

FAQ

Yes — free with no signup, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

In Exact layout mode, yes — every page is reproduced as a picture. In Editable text mode the text, paragraphs, headings, bold and italic are kept, but multi-column layouts, tables and images are simplified so the text can reflow and be edited.

Scanned pages have no text layer, so they are added to the Word file as images. To edit their text you need a PDF that has been through OCR first.
